How to build your own geoplane?

In the previous post, we saw what is a geoplane and its use in the classroom. Today, I'm going to show you how to create your own geoplane.

On this occasion, the students did it by themselves with the supervision of the teacher.

Necessary materials:

  • Square board (20 x 20 cm.)
  • Cloves (as many as grid points have, in our case we made a grid of 12 x 12 = 144 cloves). To make it safer to work with it, look for those with a big head.
  • Graphed sheet
  • Pencil
  • Hammer
  • Elastic bands

What learns students building the geoplane?

  • Geometry: They have to analyze the shape of the board and maintain the perpendicularity of the cloves.
  • To size: Students should know the measure of the board to make the grids.
  • To add: Count on the graph paper how many squares fit into each unit of the grid.
  • Fine psychomotor: Manipulate and hold fine cloves.
  • Eye-hand coordination
  • Patience
