Geometry through art

Vassili Kandinsky, Russian painter interested in mathematics and precursor of abstraction in painting.
Kandinsky's work is full of winks at geometry and mathematics. It is presented as an ideal resource to study mathematical concepts such as angles or positions in the plane of two lines, two circles or a line and a circle. As well as for the study of flat figures such as the triangle, the quadrilateral or the circle, very used by the painter throughout his work.

How to work with that?

I am going to propose five activities to work geometry through the artworks of Kandinsky. Let´s start!

Task 1. Search in the work of Kandinsky parallel, perpendicular and oblique lines. Define each of them and point them out.

Task 2. Using the picture "Concentric Circles", created by Kandinsky in 1913, explains the concentric circles, then explains what other positions can have two circles.

Task 3. Look for, "Composition VIII", made by Kandinsky in 1923, the different positions of a line and a circle and explain them.

Task 4. Another of the most important works of Vasili Kandinsky is "Duro Blando" made in 1927. In this work, look for all types of angles you know.

Last task!. Design your own Kandinsky work! You should use all the elements we have been studying in geometry classes.

I hope you like it this proposal!
